Nine Updates Your Home Needs Every Ten Years

Nine Updates Your Home Needs Every Ten Years

Nine Updates Your Home Needs Every Ten Years

All homes require maintenance. While we may overlook some aspects of our home's maintenance, there will be a time when we all would have to take care and provide some updates so that the house is maintained in a better condition. You have to accept the fact that no matter how much you love your home, take care of some things, especially when it has been a long time since you last changed many of these things in your house.

If you want your house to be in perfect condition, you can consider making these upgrades to your home once every ten years.

Change the carpet

Any carpet won't last a lifetime. An average rug comes with a life expectancy attached to it. It is generally 10-12 years. If you have surpassed that time, now is the right opportunity to change and replace that carpet. Life of a medium grade carpet depends on several factors like the kind of people using it, the presence of kids and pets, etc. You will get to see signs like rips, stains, tears, etc. as you carpet ages. However, even if you do not see any of these signs, you can change your carpet once it has completed ten years. This modification would never go to waste.

Change the hot water tank

You would never get to know the age of a water heater until you observe some leakage or failures. It is therefore essential for you to see the generation of a water heater so that you replace it on time. You can replace the hot water tank when it completes ten years. This will help the water heater to function correctly. The date of the manufacturing in case if water heaters are written on the label.

Update the ceiling fans

The life of the ceiling fan in your house depends on several factors, one of them being how frequently it is used. Generally, a ceiling fan of mid-range will last for about ten years. Once this period is completed, think about changing the ceiling fans. Also, a ceiling fan is not just about function, and they are also about looks and style. Who wouldn't want to use ceiling fans that have the latest model? One of the few common signs that your fan might need an update is that it runs slower than usual, or the light bulbs start to burn out quite quickly.

Get a new dishwasher

The dishwasher is just like your water heaters. They have to be changed when they are old enough. You may not be able to see the signs very discretely, but all dishwashers need a change once every ten years or so. Some of the common symptoms that your dishwasher is getting old are that the dishes are not properly cleaned, or there are cracks in the tub, or if the control board becomes unresponsive.

Replace the garbage disposal system

Garbage disposal systems come with their timelines. When you see that the garbage disposal in your home is not working as well as it used to, it is time to change the system. Average medium-range garbage disposal will last for some 10-12 years, so if you think the garbage disposal in your home has crossed that limit, then it is time to consider replacing it with a new one.

Get a new washing machine

The average lifespan of a standard washing machine is somewhere around 8-10 years. If your appliance has crossed that time, then you can consider buying a new one before it causes any problems in your life. If your washing machine or dryer is working correctly even after all these years, then you can consider yourself fortunate enough because this seldom happens.

Paint your home

There is no fixed time when you should repaint your home. However, you must not ignore painting your house if it has been more than ten years since you last did it. The life of the paint used by you depends on various factors like the quality of the paint, weather conditions, etc. We generally tend to paint those areas that we use frequently but tend to ignore the other areas. If you have been doing the same, it's time you decorate all your house once in ten years.

Refill the crevices in your showers, bathtubs, and sinks

All the sanitary products undergo wear and tear with time. Water further erodes the lining of these appliances, and they can cause leakages. You can consider filling the crevices in the showers to prevent any kind of leakage from them. This task can be done once every ten years. It will also give a new shine to the bathroom products.

Refill the cracks in the windows

Windows in your homes also require refurbishment, once in a while. It is not possible to replace the windows as it can cost you a considerable amount of money. Replacing the windows will also require you to take the help of builders, and it will take a lot of time. Reglazing the windows is the right option here. Reglazing can be done once in every ten years, but you can check your windows for any leaks before the cold season starts.

You can make your home look better by following these simple steps once every ten years.
